“Ni Hao! Peng You.” This long-running Chinese restaurant in the Ropponmatsu area is known for serving authentic Chinese food at reasonable prices. It is even recommended by Mr. Oh, the famous former baseball player and chairman of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. I had been curious about this place for a long time, so I finally decided to visit.
I happened to visit this area during the cold winter season. While walking around Ropponmatsu, a neighborhood currently undergoing redevelopment, I decided to visit a long-loved Chinese restaurant that has been popular with locals for many years.
4-minute walk from Ropponmatsu Station, a hidden but popular Chinese restaurant
The restaurant is located about a 4-minute walk from Ropponmatsu Subway Station. It is tucked away on a small side street off the main road, so it can be easy to miss if it’s your first visit.
The dining space is fairly large, but since it is a popular restaurant, making a reservation is recommended. It has a welcoming atmosphere that feels comfortable for families as well as solo diners.

Ordering the popular Hot and Sour Noodle Soup
On this visit, I ordered the well-known Hot and Sour Noodle Soup (¥900).

The soup has a perfect balance of sourness and spice, making it especially comforting on a cold day. The thick, slightly creamy broth coats the noodles well, creating a rich and addictive flavor.
Inside the restaurant and recommended occasions
The restaurant mainly has table seating, with only four counter seats. It is easy to visit alone, but it also works well for groups and families.
The calm atmosphere is mixed with a friendly, casual Chinese restaurant vibe. You can easily feel why this place has been loved by local residents for so many years.

Second visit|Mapo Tofu set and the famous Stir-fried Green Peppers
I visited again on another day with my partner. This time, we ordered the Mapo Tofu set meal and the restaurant’s specialty, Stir-fried Green Peppers.

What impressed me the most was the stir-fried green peppers. The peppers were crisp and fresh, with deep umami flavor. Simple, but very well made—no wonder it is considered a signature dish.
The seasoning is rich but not heavy, making it perfect with rice. It was so good that it made me want to try cooking it myself at home.
