Just behind the Fukuoka City Chuo Ward Office. After finishing some errands in Daimyo with my girlfriend, we stopped by a place I had been curious about: “Shokudo Umeboshi” for lunch. From the outside, I didn’t expect much space, but the inside was surprisingly large—and already full. It was lively even in the daytime, and the moment we walked in, the energy made us feel excited.
A Lively, Comfortable Atmosphere (Not What You’d Expect for an Izakaya Lunch)
At lunchtime, people enjoying a meal and people having daytime drinks share the same space, and the atmosphere feels really nice. There were many young staff and young customers, so the whole place felt bright, friendly, and full of good energy.
Izakaya lunches can sometimes be a bit pricey, but here you can eat well for around about ¥1,000. Considering this great location in Daimyo, I think the value is excellent.
I Ordered Their Famous “Meat & Tofu Set Meal” (¥1,000)!
Their signature dish is definitely the meat and tofu. It costs ¥650 as a single dish, but since it was my first time, I ordered the full set meal (¥1,000).
The meat came out piping hot, with a sweet-and-savory flavor that goes perfectly with rice. Adding a little shichimi (Japanese chili spice) makes it even better and more fragrant. The tofu was hidden under the meat, soaked with flavor, and turned a deep brown on the outside. Honestly, this would be perfect as a snack with alcohol too… so I’d recommend it to people who like drinking as well.
She Ordered the Menchi Katsu Set – Super Crispy!
My girlfriend ordered the menchi katsu set meal. I tried a bite, and it was incredibly crispy and delicious. It was freshly fried, smelled great, and felt very satisfying as a lunch dish.

The staff and customers are mostly young, giving the restaurant a fresh and energetic vibe. The bright, lively mood makes you feel energized even during lunchtime. It has the cheerful buzz of an izakaya, but still feels casual and easy to enter for lunch.

Shokudo Umeboshi is perfect for people who want “a good lunch in Daimyo” or “a lively and energetic restaurant.” Their famous meat and tofu is excellent, but other set meals are also tasty. You can even enjoy daytime drinks here.
It’s easy to walk in, reasonably priced, and very comfortable. Definitely a place you’ll want to keep in mind when choosing where to have lunch in Daimyo.
