A Beloved Classic for Over 30 Years
More than 30 years ago, Uncle Tetsu’s Cheesecake became a massive sensation in Hakata. It quickly won over the hearts of the local community with its gentle sweetness and airy texture. Although the original boom eventually faded with time, the Jirōmaru flagship store continues to handcraft each cheesecake with love and care—driven by the strong belief that this nostalgic flavor must be preserved.

We Went There Ourselves!
The reason for our visit? My girlfriend said, “I want to try it!” So we hopped on the subway and headed out together. Though it’s a suburban location, the ride was quick and easy. The shop has the charm of a humble neighborhood patisserie, and surprisingly, it’s very accessible—even by car, thanks to the spacious parking lot behind the store.

The Classic Cheesecake & Delicious Madeleines
Here’s what we picked up: a cheesecake (¥960), a plain madeleine (¥157), and a chocolate cube cake (¥260). We couldn’t wait to dig in!

You can enjoy the cheesecake in two ways: chilled for a moist, rich texture or warmed in the microwave for that soft, fluffy melt-in-your-mouth feel. After microwaving it for about a minute, the cake jiggles like a custard pudding! We tried both, but my girlfriend and I definitely preferred the warm version—so fluffy and aromatic!
The madeleine and chocolate cube cake were also seriously tasty—great value for the price!

The Gentle Taste of Cream Cheese & Eggs
The main ingredients include cream cheese and fresh eggs from Kyushu. The cheesecake has a soft milky and eggy flavor with a light, natural sweetness that feels incredibly nostalgic. Its charm lies not in flashy appeal, but in the simple goodness that keeps you coming back. That’s the real magic of Uncle Tetsu.
No Raisins? Even Better!
Uncle Tetsu’s Cheesecake is often compared to the popular “Rikuro Ojisan’s Cheesecake” from Osaka. The biggest difference? Uncle Tetsu’s version doesn’t include raisins at the bottom. If you’re not a fan of raisins, this is the cheesecake for you!
