Sun Selco: A Retro-Styled Shopping Building

Retro. That’s the perfect word to describe a commercial facility you can find in Fukuoka. It’s called ‘Sun Selco.

A 10-story building with 2 basement levels, Sun Selco has a history spanning over 40 years. The shops inside exude the scent of the Showa era. It’s a truly retro space that can make you feel like you’ve slipped back in time to the Showa period.

However, the locals of Fukuoka aren’t always aware that there are many inexpensive and delicious eateries within the Sun Selco. My reason for visiting Sun Selco was to renew my driver’s license at the “Gold License Center” located inside Sun Selco. It was during this visit that I discovered the charm of Sun Selco. I wonder if many others have also come to appreciate the merits of Sun Selco through such experiences like mine, where they visited for license renewals.

To the underground dining area.

I parked my bicycle at the bicycle parking lot in Sun Selco and headed to the underground dining area.

However, when you actually enter the underground dining area, there are a multitude of appealing shops. There are many budget-friendly and delicious-looking dining establishments, indeed.

By the way, during my previous visit, I had the pleasure of visiting “Namaste-Do,” a curry restaurant. Here’s the article from that visit.

I also explored the upper shopping floors.

After the meal, I took the escalator to the upper floors. I also explored the retro shopping floors.

The upper floors are just as retro as the lower levels…!

The rooftop might be a hidden gem!

If you continue to the rooftop, there you’ll find…

There were benches and a resting area!

When I visited, there were hardly any people, and it felt like a private space. Despite the rain, I could relax on the benches in a sheltered area.

Taking some time off from work, I enjoyed a moment of bliss gazing at the sky and sipping on canned coffee. It was a wonderful experience!
