Just a 5-minute walk from the Chikushi Exit of Hakata Station, Soba Chaya Shokichi is a hidden soba spot. No need to wait in long lines, and the taste is excellent. It’s a local favorite, loved by many regulars.

They offer not only soba but also rice bowl sets and even udon, so even those who don’t usually eat soba can enjoy a meal here. Their set meals are especially recommended — affordable and filling!

Kamo Nan Soba (¥1000)

This time, I ordered the *Kamo Nan Soba*. The light and flavorful bonito broth was so comforting. The soft soba noodles and warm soup, paired with cabbage and duck slices, made the perfect combo.

Dontaku Soba (¥900)

*Dontaku Soba* comes with a large shrimp tempura on cold soba. Start with wasabi for a refreshing kick, then mix in the egg for a richer flavor in the second half.

By the way, “Dontaku” is the name of a traditional festival in Hakata!

Relax with Soba-Yu After Your Meal

You can also ask for soba-yu, the hot water used to boil soba — a kind of secret item here. You can drink it as is, or mix it with leftover dipping sauce, add some green onion or chili pepper for extra flavor.

It’s a gentle, warming way to end your meal and take a short break.
