I visited ‘Pork Bonpei’ to start the new year with a fresh mindset and boost my spirits by enjoying some tonkatsu.

Pork Cutlet Set with Domestic Pork

I had the excuse of New Year, so I loosened the purse strings a bit (laughs).

I ordered the recommended Pork Cutlet Set with Domestic Pork priced at ¥1450, which is one rank higher than the regular set meal. It’s the most popular menu at Pork Bonpei, made with pork from Kyushu.

　By the way, for set meals, you can choose from three options: ‘Tokusen(Special)’ made with Kurobuta pork from Kirishima, ‘Kokusan(Domestic)’ made with pork from Kyushu, and the convenient ‘Teiban(Standard)’ made with European pork. The Pork Cutlet Set with Domestic Pork that I ordered this time falls under the ‘Kokusan’ category.

I started by enjoying the pork cutlet with salt. The meat itself has great flavor, so it pairs well with salt. Later on, I switched to the sauce to savor the cutlet. The taste is very refined, making the rice very appetizing. The rice has a perfect texture and is delicious.

The price range is a bit higher than your average town tonkatsu place, but the meat is delicious, and you can have unlimited rice and cabbage, so that’s a plus.

The distinctive feature is the pink-colored salad dressing.

On the table, there’s a striking pink dressing. It’s very beautiful. This dressing is made from ‘red cabbage,’ and it tasted delicious when poured over the salad.

Collaboration with Kubo Curry “Limited to 10 servings a day Katsu Curry”

The tonkatsu set meal is delicious, but there are other tempting items on the menu. One that caught my eye is the collaboration with the popular spice curry restaurant “Kubo Curry” – the “Special Katsu Curry,” limited to 10 servings a day, priced at ¥1350. It seems to have a good reputation, although I didn’t order it this time. I hope to challenge it someday!

Access by bicycle

It is located just a short walk from Ropponmatsu Station on the subway Nanakuma Line. Even if you visit by bicycle, there is a bicycle parking lot across the road, and the sidewalk in front of the store is spacious enough to park your bicycle.
