“Mawaru Sushi Ichiba” in Fukuoka’s Nagahama area is a beloved sushi spot located near Nagahama Fish Market, offering the freshest sushi. At first glance, it may look like an ordinary conveyor belt sushi restaurant, but in reality, skilled chefs prepare sushi right in front of you. Let’s dive into this hidden gem!
Freshness Guaranteed! Sushi Made with Market-Direct Fish
The biggest attraction of “Mawaru Sushi Ichiba” is its fresh seafood sourced directly from the Nagahama Fish Market. The freshness of the ingredients is guaranteed, and each piece, carefully crafted by skilled sushi chefs, is truly delicious! It’s no wonder locals call it “one of the best casual sushi spots in Fukuoka City.”
Popular items include rare cuts like fatty bluefin tuna nouten (the top of the head) and thread-sail filefish (kawahagi). Be sure to check for exclusive specials displayed in the store that aren’t listed on the menu.
If you’re unsure what to order since the menu is in Japanese, the set menu is a great choice.
Sushi That Doesn’t Rotate: The Unique Conveyor Belt Experience
Despite the name “Mawaru” (which means “revolving”), the sushi doesn’t actually travel on a conveyor belt. Instead, skilled chefs, including the head sushi chef and female sushi artisans, prepare each piece right before your eyes! The conveyor belt remains as a vestige of the restaurant’s past when it operated as a conveyor belt sushi place, but now it’s all about enjoying fresh sushi crafted with expert precision.
High-Quality Sushi at an Affordable Price
Considering the exceptional quality and freshness of the sushi, the price range of ¥150 to ¥650 per plate is very reasonable. While it might seem slightly higher than chain conveyor belt sushi restaurants, the taste is truly extraordinary. Here’s what I ordered this time:
- – Aji (Horse Mackerel)
- – Nama Ebi (Raw Shrimp)
- – Tsubugai (Whelk Clam)
- – Hotate (Scallop, 1 piece)
- – Engawa (Flatfish Fin)
- – Hokkigai Salad (Surf Clam Salad)
- – Nama Saba (Raw Mackerel)
Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious! 😊
Great Service! A Comfortable and Welcoming Atmosphere
The restaurant is cozy, with about 8 counter seats and 2 table seats. There’s also a banquet space on the second floor. The warm and welcoming service from the staff adds to the charm of this place. While I was waiting outside, the manager kindly invited me to wait on the second floor, saying, “It’s cold outside, so please wait upstairs.” This thoughtful hospitality is undoubtedly one of the reasons customers keep coming back!
