Itoshima, a rapidly rising popular spot in Fukuoka. It has garnered global attention for its beautiful landscapes and unique charm, earning the third spot in the ‘Brightlights, small city’ ranking by the British magazine ‘MONOCLE.’

I recently took a short trip to Itoshima with some friends during a long weekend. I want to share my experience at ‘Matamata no Shio,’ a place we visited, because it was absolutely fantastic.

The Salted Caramel Pudding at ‘Mataichi no Shio’

The pudding from the saltworks in Itoshima is creating a buzz. The shop is named ‘Mataichi no Shio’ and it’s located on a spacious site along the coastline, where they not only produce salt but also sell pudding. The popular item, ‘Salt-Topped Pudding’ is outstanding. The pudding is sprinkled with the special salt from ‘Mataichi no Shio’ and the combination of the delicious salt and pudding is truly exceptional.
