Hanabi Dōranbachi is a traditional fireworks ritual in Kurume City and is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Fukuoka Prefecture. With a history of over 360 years, it is held every year on September 15. The name originates from the way bees fly out all at once when their nest is disturbed. Once lit, a thunderous roar and a storm of sparks light up the night sky in a spectacular display.
