Want to enjoy delicious sushi in central Fukuoka, but every place is packed with tourists? You’re not alone!

In central Fukuoka, major conveyor belt sushi chains often have 30-minute wait times. Plus, most sushi is made by machines or part-time workers.

But there’s a place where you can enjoy authentic sushi without waiting. That’s Kaiten Sushi Fujimaru Daimyo.

Why is “Fujimaru” a hidden gem?

① Prime location, but no long lines

Despite being in Tenjin, tourists don’t know about it. It’s in a hidden spot, so mostly locals visit. That means no long waits and easy access.

② Sushi made by skilled chefs

Unlike chain restaurants where machines make sushi, chefs prepare sushi by hand right in front of you. You can grab sushi from the conveyor belt, but if you order directly, they’ll make it fresh on the spot. Check the blackboard for daily specials featuring Fukuoka’s freshest local fish.

③ Open during off-peak hours

Worried about lunchtime crowds? Want a late lunch? It’s open even during off-peak hours, like 3 PM, so you can relax and enjoy sushi anytime.

Tasting Report

I ordered one of Fukuoka’s specialties: fresh saba (mackerel) nigiri. Fukuoka’s mackerel is fresh and safe to eat raw, making it a rare treat for visitors from other regions. Just look at this beauty—rich, fatty, and glistening! One bite and the umami spreads through your mouth. The balance with the sushi rice was perfect, making me want to order more. Fujimaru also serves unique toppings like myoga (Japanese ginger) and whale meat, making it a fun place to explore new flavors.
