I found a place in Ropponmatsu called Cosmic Brain Restaurant Chichiru & Siciri. The name itself sounds mysterious and intriguing. Drawn by its unique vibe, I decided to check it out. Here’s what I discovered!
What kind of restaurant is ‘Cosmic Brain Restaurant Chichiru & Siciri’?
Cosmic Brain Restaurant Chichiru & Siciri is a restaurant opened in 2013 by an owner captivated by Nepalese cuisine. The concept is to serve “authentic local flavors,” and it’s known for offering genuine Nepalese curry right here in Fukuoka. I met the owner, who had a charming and cool vibe.
Surprisingly, the chef has experience working at a 5-star restaurant in Nepal. The dishes reflect his impressive skill and taste, even earning a spot in the 2022 Tabelog Top 100 Restaurants, proving his exceptional talent. It’s said that the restaurant has also been featured in various media outlets.
Origin and History of the Restaurant’s Name
The name “Chichiru & Siciri” comes from a unique story. When the owner and his wife got married, she dreamed of aliens from the Sirius Star who taught her “the principles of a happy life.” These aliens were named “Chichiru” and “Siciri” and her husband suggested using their names for the restaurant. This whimsical story led to the creation of “Cosmic Brain Restaurant Chichiru & Siciri.”
There’s even a YouTube video where she shares this story, and her soothing voice makes it a comforting watch. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into crafting the restaurant’s concept and brand.
Order: Chicken Biryani
This time, I ordered the Chicken Biryani from the menu. This Biryani is a traditional Nepali-style rice dish rich in spices. It comes with a choice of drink: Nepali tea, coffee, or lassi. I chose the Nepali tea.
The biryani was fragrant with roasted spices, served with a side of yogurt-based vegetable sauce on a separate dish. The balance between the rich spices in the biryani and the mild, refreshing yogurt sauce was perfect, allowing for flexible ways to enjoy the dish. You can pour the sauce over the biryani or alternate bites; both are equally enjoyable. Though it may look like a small portion, it’s surprisingly filling with its dense consistency, providing ample satisfaction. Biryani is often celebrated as one of the world’s top three rice dishes, traditionally enjoyed in India and Nepal for special occasions.
After the meal, I enjoyed a cup of Nepalese tea. This aromatic tea was the perfect finish after savoring the spices, creating a relaxing moment. It was a pleasure to slowly sip and enjoy the lingering flavors of the biryani.
Chichiru & Siciri Set
On another visit, I ordered the classic menu item, the Chichiru & Siciri Set. This set includes a curry and naan, showcasing the chef’s masterful use of spices for an authentic curry experience.
This set offers a choice of several curries, served with freshly baked naan. The curry, influenced by the chef’s expertise from a Nepalese 5-star restaurant, boasts a complex, rich flavor of spices. The naan is soft and chewy, perfectly complementing the curry. If you prefer, you can request basmati rice instead of naan.
