Are you familiar with Fukuoka’s “Teppan Yakiniku”? It’s a soul food for the people of Fukuoka that’s often featured on television shows. The origin of this Teppan Yakiniku can be traced back to “Bikkuri Tei Honke,” a restaurant that was established in 1963.
The main store is located near JR Minami-Fukuoka Station, but this time I visited the Akasaka branch situated in the heart of Fukuoka city.
What is ‘Bikkuri Tei Honke’ like?
You can savor the local favorite “teppanyakiniku,” a soulful dish for Fukuoka locals. This restaurant is the birthplace of teppanyakiniku and was established in 1963. It’s often featured on TV, and in the popular TV show “Himitsu no Kenmin SHOW,” it was ranked an impressive 4th in the nationwide “All-Star Meat Festival” segment!
Delicious way of eating
This teppanyakiniku-style grilled meat has a delicious way of eating that has been passed down for generations.
① Start by placing a wooden stick under the grill and tilting it to one side to collect the juices.
②Then, dissolve the spicy miso from the condiment set into the collected juices.
③Dip the meat and cabbage into the mixture of juices, then enjoy it with rice.
The method was displayed in various parts of the restaurant. Oh, it was incredibly delicious. I was thoroughly satisfied.
