“Shinobu Meshi,” a South Indian curry restaurant

The Ropponmatsu area is known for its variety of cozy and relaxing restaurants. This time, I visited “Shinobu Meshi,” one of those establishments.

“What kind of place is ‘Shinobu Meshi’?”

“Shinobu Meshi” is a popular curry restaurant run by a female owner. It was opened in 2018. The shop, renovated from an old folk house, has a stylish and sophisticated atmosphere, rather than the typical ambiance of a curry place.

They have a unique approach to their menu, offering only one dish – “South Indian Curry”. Their drink menu also includes several choices, with enticing options like homemade syrup-based juices.

My impressions

I ordered the South Indian curry and a ginger ale.

I ordered the “South Indian Curry” and a “Ginger Ale.” Since the popular restaurant was full and the owner was managing it alone, it took a bit of time for the food to arrive.

The wait was worth it. The curry was hot, served with real Indian rice and some cilantro. The Ginger Ale came in a cool WILKINSON bottle, which I really liked.

The fragrant Indica rice matched the curry and herbs perfectly, offering a unique and elegant flavor. I savored a special, aromatic curry that’s exclusive to this place.

The white condiment is called “raita,” made from yogurt and vegetables. When added to the curry, it provided a creamy and delicious flavor variation.

If you’re coming by bike, it might be tough to find parking right in front of the shop. Instead, consider using the Municipal Ropponmatsu Bicycle Parking on the main street to the south. Park there and walk to the shop for your visit.
