Ropponmatsu is known for its stylish cafes and unique shops in Fukuoka. This time, I went on a sweet date with my girlfriend in the hidden backstreets of Ropponmatsu! We visited two amazing dessert spots: to chocolate and KITAKU CAKE&CAFE. Let me introduce these lovely places!

First Stop – to chocolate –

Our first stop was to chocolate, a chocolate specialty shop near NAS Sports Club in Ropponmatsu. The exterior is simple and quiet, almost like a prefab building. But the moment I opened the door, the sweet scent of chocolate filled the air, making me instantly excited!

Inside, the display case was full of beautiful chocolate-based sweets, making it hard to choose! After much thought, I picked the Tigre. One bite, and I was in heaven—the rich butter flavor mixed perfectly with the chocolate. The cake was moist, and I could really taste the deep flavors.

I also heard that their cream puffs are very popular, so I’ll definitely try them next time! I had a short chat with the owner, and I could feel their passion for chocolate. This shop has definitely won my heart!

Next Stop – KITAKU CAKE&CAFE –

Our next stop was KITAKU CAKE&CAFE, located right next to to chocolate. The red-themed stylish exterior immediately caught my eye.

Inside, a kind elderly lady welcomed us. The showcase was filled with delicious-looking cakes, and choosing one was just as fun as eating! As a chocolate lover, I had no hesitation—I went straight for the chocolate cake!

When I took a bite, I was amazed—it was rich, moist, and perfectly sweet. It felt like a chocolate cake made for adults. You can take your cake to go, but the shop also has a small eat-in space in the back, so you can enjoy your dessert right there.

A Sweet Date in the Hidden Streets of Ropponmatsu!

Ropponmatsu is great for cafe-hopping, but there are still many hidden gems in the backstreets! The two shops we visited, to chocolate and KITAKU CAKE&CAFE, both had a cozy atmosphere—perfect for a date. If you’re coming by bicycle, I recommend using the Ropponmatsu Station bicycle parking. If you’re taking the subway, it’s just a 5-minute walk from Nanakuma Line Ropponmatsu Station.

Next time, I want to try to chocolate‘s cream puffs and the cakes I haven’t tasted yet! If you love sweets, you should definitely visit these hidden dessert spots in Ropponmatsu!
