I visited ‘Seinan Morinokohan Park’ in Fukuoka City by bicycle. From the map, it appeared to be a vast and somewhat mysterious park, but when I actually visited, I found a peaceful, nature-rich space. According to Wikipedia, the park is indeed named after Seinan Gakuin University, as I had suspected.

“Since the 1960s, the area had been used as the campus for Seinan Gakuin University’s theology department (Hoshikuma Campus) and the athletic club grounds. However, in 1991, related to Fukuoka City’s urban planning park concept, the university was asked to transfer the land. The final decision for the transfer was made in 1999.”

Start exploring from the west entrance

I entered from near Kumamoto Pond on the west side and followed a course toward the North Entrance Plaza. A river flows through the park, and lush forests and grasslands stretch out around you. While there aren’t any special facilities, the space is perfect for simply enjoying nature. As I cycled through the park, I caught a glimpse of Fukuoka Tower from along the river. This kind of scenery is one of the charms of being able to feel close to nature even while in the city.

The tranquility and coolness of the bamboo grove.

As I ventured further into the park, I came across a beautiful bamboo grove and decided to explore deeper. Inside, the air was refreshingly cool, and the serene atmosphere made it an ideal walking path. There were also well-maintained benches here and there, offering a perfect spot to sit and relax. However, when I stopped to take a break, I got bitten by mosquitoes because of my exposed skin. I highly recommend preparing for insect bites if you plan to visit the park.

Sports Facilities on the East Side of the Park

As I moved east, I came across the sports park area. This section features a playground for small children, along with well-maintained sports facilities such as a baseball field, soccer field, and tennis courts. On weekends, you can often see children participating in club activities, making it a place where families can enjoy time together.

Entrance plaza and ‘Nanakuma Kitchen’

When I arrived at the “Entrance Plaza” located on the northern side of the park, I realized that this was the main entrance. The plaza features a stylish café called “Nanakuma Kitchen,” which seems to have been recently renovated. It looks like a great spot to stop for a break during your park exploration. Enjoying a moment in this café, surrounded by nature, is sure to refresh both your body and mind!
